Hernandez Celebrates Opening of New DMV+ in Aurora

Aurora, IL - Representative Barabara Hernandez (D-Aurora) celebrated the opening of a new 10,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art DMV+ facility in downtown Aurora.

Located at 970 N. Lake Street, the new facility offers services that have never been accessible at traditional Illinois DMV locations. These include specialized services that would otherwise require an in-person visit to a Secretary of State’s office located in downtown Chicago.

"This is great news that will benefit our growing Aurora community, and I am thankful to Secretary of State Giannoulias for getting this new facility up and running," said Representative Barbara Hernandez. "This new state-of-the-art DMV+ has the capacity to serve more people more efficiently--reducing wait times and allowing them to access additional services without having to travel to downtown Chicago."

“The old Aurora DMV had suffered from years of neglect, and the area was in desperate need of a larger, more modern, state-of-the-art facility to accommodate its growth and one that was worthy of its second-largest-Illinois city status,” said Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.  “This DMV+ not only offers more services, but also noticeable efficiencies that will reduce wait times. I want to thank Representative Hernandez for her leadership and for spearheading this effort that will vastly improve the customer experience for residents throughout the western suburbs.”

The DMV+ utilizes a “One-Stop-Shop” design that involves cross-training employees to accommodate customers seeking driver services – such as license and ID renewals, REAL IDs and driving tests – and vehicle services, including registration renewals, sticker and plate purchases and title work. The larger space can accommodate more customers than the old Aurora facility, which is greatly needed as Aurora’s population continues to grow.

In addition to more indoor space, the new location offers a much larger parking lot to accommodate customers. The new facility is an appointment-only DMV and is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will also open on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the office’s REAL ID Saturdays program until May 31.
