Montgomery’s Annual Tree Lighting & Santa Visit Grows “Merry & Bright” with New Surprises This Year
The Village of Montgomery invites residents and visitors to embrace the holiday spirit at the annual Tree Lighting & Santa Visit, a centerpiece of the Village’s Merry & Bright Holiday Events series. This year’s celebration is bigger, brighter, and filled with festive surprises the whole family will love.

Santa makes his way to Montgomery on Sunday, December 7. Join Santa and Mayor Brolley at 5:00P for the ceremonial tree lighting and opening of this year’s Festival of Trees display in front of Village Hall (200 N. River St.). Be sure to get there early to watch Santa’s grand arrival aboard a Montgomery-Countryside Fire Protection District truck.

The festivities do not stop there. After Santa and Mayor Brolley light the tree, Santa will stay to visit with families until 7:00P. Be on the lookout for Whoville’s most famous party crasher, too. Finish your holiday shopping early, visit Settler’s Cottage for all the latest Village of Montgomery merchandise. The event is free and open to all.

“This event is all about bringing people together and creating lasting holiday memories,” said Billy Murdoch, Vice President of Operations at Schaefer’s Greenhouses – this year’s presenting sponsor. “We’re proud to support a tradition that celebrates community, joy, and togetherness.”

The festivities continue at Gray’s Mill Estate, where the Rotary Club of Montgomery will host cookies and crafts, offering families a warm, creative space to snack, unwind, and make something festive together.

“Nothing says holiday cheer like gathering under the glow of a community tree,” said Billy Murdoch. “We’re delighted to help families make memories that bloom. Be sure to grab a festive poinsettia to brighten your home and join us downstairs in Village Hall for a hands-on holiday tutorial—it’s the perfect way to sprinkle a little extra magic into your season.”

Beloved traditions also return this year, ensuring the event remains a community favorite. Guests can enjoy musical performances from local elementary and high school groups inside the Village Hall Board Room and experience the rich harmonies of the professional caroling ensemble, The Festive Singers, performing both indoors and outdoors. A DJ on River Street will keep the energy high with seasonal favorites as guests explore the Festival of Trees (on display through December 27), tour the historic Settler’s Cottage Museum, and enjoy popcorn provided by the Village Trustees.

This year’s Tree Lighting & Santa Visit promises to be the most magical yet—blending new attractions, timeless traditions, and the warmth of community celebration. All are welcome to join us for a free evening of light, laughter, and holiday cheer.
