Hernandez Applauds Renewal of Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Programs in Aurora Area
Aurora, IL - Today, Representative Barabara Hernandez (D-Aurora) released a statement after Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced that Lewis University’s Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program that serves people in the Aurora area has been renewed for $682,000. In addition, $1,100,000 has been renewed to support the Illinois Foundation of Skills program that serves people in the DuPage County community.
The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program launched in 2021 with the goal of increasing diversity and access to apprenticeship programs in well-paying fields. Comprehensive pre-apprenticeship programs help participants gain admission to apprenticeship programs, which provide a greater opportunity to obtain employment in the construction trades and secure a lifelong career.
“The hardworking people who call Aurora home are the reason why our community continues to grow,” said Representative Hernandez. “I am proud to support programs like these that focus on developing our workforce and providing people with the training and education necessary to pursue high-quality jobs in the construction trades. I applaud Governor Pritzker and the DCEO for continuing to invest in the future of Aurora’s workforce, and I thank our workforce training partners for continuing their work in our community.”
