Aurora Bids Farewell to History-Making Mayor Richard C. Irvin
On Tuesday, May 6, the 59th Mayor Richard C. Irvin convened his last Committee of the Whole (C.O.W.) in Council Chambers.
In addition to regular business, the meeting was punctuated by several presentations and remarks recognizing this as the last call to order by the current Mayor, honoring his legacy of leadership and community impact.
Groups that took the mic to thank the Mayor for his service to the City of Aurora included the Aurora Puerto Rican Cultural Council, who presented him with the Sazon y Corazon Award.
The Aurora Housing Authority and Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board President also spoke, thanking the mayor for his dedication to AAHAB's cause and community efforts. Members of JH Hospitality Group were also represented; their message involved the unveiling of a new dish at their latest restaurant, Touché French Creole. The Irvin Grit will join their menu to honor Mayor Irvin.

"I have sat on this dais for the past 18 years and will forever be grateful for this opportunity," Mayor Irvin said with emotion. "You all allowed a little boy who grew up in public housing to fulfill his dream of leading his city."
Mayor Irvin issued several proclamations to honor key members of his administration, designating their birthdays as official holidays in Aurora. Those recognized included Deputy Mayor Memo Trujillo, Chief of Staff Alex Alexandrou, Deputy Chiefs of Staff Alex Voigt and Maria Lindsay, and retiring Police Chief Keith Cross, who will conclude his distinguished 30-year career at the end of the month.
Thank you, Mayor Irvin, for a history-making 8 years in office--and nearly 20 years of serving Aurora as an elected official!

Aurora Water Main Flushing Program Continues Through June
The 2025 Water Main Flushing Program has begun. Fire hydrant flushing will occur on weekdays between 7 A.M. and 6 P.M. from May through June and September through October to remove sediment that may have accumulated in pipes.
Watch for signs alerting the public of flushing in your area!
Please wash clothes before 7 A.M. or after 6 P.M. while flushing is occurring in your neighborhood. If you see rusty water, discontinue water use and turn on cold water faucets, such as an outside spigot or bathtub, until the water clears in a few minutes. If your clothes become discolored in the laundry, do not dry them and call 311 for a free bottle of liquid laundry aide to help remove stains.
More details, including a breakdown of the subareas pictured, can be found via the link below.
