Hernandez Announces Over $1.1 Million for Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Programs in Aurora Area

Aurora, IL - Today, Representative Barabara Hernandez (D-Aurora) released a statement after Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced that three organizations in the Aurora area would receive financial awards as part of the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

The three organizations in the Aurora area to receive awards and the funding amounts are:

Lewis University - Aurora ($550,000)
Quad County Urban League ($330,000)
Hire 360 - Kane ($261,360)

The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program launched in 2021 with the goal of increasing diversity and access to apprenticeship programs in well-paying fields. Comprehensive pre-apprenticeship programs help participants gain admission to apprenticeship programs, which provide a greater opportunity to obtain employment in the construction trades and secure a lifelong career.

“The hardworking people who call Aurora home are the reason why our community continues to grow,” said Representative Hernandez. “I am proud to support programs that focus on developing our workforce and providing people with the training and education necessary to pursue high-quality jobs in the construction trades. That's why this funding is so important, and I applaud Governor Pritzker and the DCEO for continuing to invest in the future of Aurora’s growing workforce.”
